No More Fu<king Deadwood!?

ugh, tomorrow night is the season finale of Deadwood, and from last I heard ... it's going to inadvertently be the final show - period.

Although the series had a planned 4-year story arc, I hear that HBO is letting it drop after the 3rd year ... despite it being one of their most popular shows ever and one of the most critically acclaimed television shows of all time.

I guess it's very expensive to produce ... but if they let a "Gem" like this finish before its time, I'm going to be very bummed. With what they've got to cram into tomorrow night's 45 minutes, I can hardly say that it's going out with a whimper ... but it's going out before finishing the story. The story that I'm completely hooked on.

Is anyone else following this show? Has anyone heard of a reprive? A movie? A DVD series to finish the tale? Isn't there a zillionaire fan benefactor out there somewhere?!?!

Won't fu<king God save fu<king Deadwood?!?!?

Those cocksucking paltroons.

(I don't watch the show, but Eric does and I hear the c-sucker word every two seconds).

The decision to end was a mutual one between HBO and the writer guy so a reprive is unlikely.

It wasn't so much that Deadwood was cancelled as HBO and the writer guy got excited about a new project and they didn't want to do both simultaneously.

Such is my recollection anyway. There were a lot of stories about it a few months ago.

Actually there's a planned 4-hour mini-series to wrap everything up.

Deadwood has been my favorite television show for three years. I love those loopy c**ts and c**ksuckers. They'll be very, very missed.

Oh, Ellsworth. My poor, sweet Ellsworth.

And where the hell was Doc?! How could they NOT have him in the finale? That left me a bit miffed.

Apparently Milch has a new series he wants to pursue instead. About surfers. Color me unenthused and disappointed. You leave THIS behind? For surfers? Ah, Milch. I hates you a little, even as I love you lots.

I'm not sure I can rely on Woody Allen and dumb SNL comedies for my Ian McShane fixes. Sigh.

Yes, was I mistaken - or was Doc the only character not featured in the finale???

In that everyone else had at least a cameo moment of obvious character closure, it really seemed more like a series finale ... and I am sorta satisfied. (Though, of course, thrilled that there might be wrap-up miniseries).

The finale also cleverly eschewed the uncharacteristic shoot'em-up being implied all season ... and went instead with the show's forte of shrewd character interactions, sizzling dialogue, intense suspense and mortal drama.

My potty-mouth will likely improve with time ... but I still think 3 seasons was hardly enough ... and there's a part of me that feels sorta dead now there's no more Deadwood.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. I loved how tense but calm the finale was. I suppose the episode prior was the more climatic, but this was just as shimmering and equally alarming.

We will likely get to see Doc die of consumption in the mini-series, which will just about kill me.

At least they are giving an ending, from the 4 hour miniseries idea. They still haven't ended Carnivale.

Since Doc Cochrane is one of the few fictional characters, they can do as they like with him ... meaning, yeah kill him off after not even giving him a moment in the finale, WTF? He was sooo noticeable by his absence.

Yeah, the prior two episodes were the ones more filled with action. And the actual last show had tension and sizzle to spare. I guess the final trio adds up to one amazing conclusion of everythingness.

But the actual finale had some great stuff. I loved all the final interactions with Hurst. As would realistically happen, he comes out ahead plotwise ... but he gets quite the personal comeupance from Bullock, and from Charlie Utter, and from the widow Ellsworth best of all.

The third season led me to a particular appreciation of this show. In the second, I bemoaned the loss of Swearingen as the heavy. But the third season demonstrated that there'd be a new heavy each time around, because the same guy just can't be the same degree of scary two years in a row. This year, Toliver went from frightening to pathetic ... and G.R. took over the villain role. Very fu<king clever, if you ask me.

So unless and until there's a miniseries down the trail, we'll be left with the apt final image of Al scrubbing the blood from his office floorboards.
Waaaa, I miss the show already!!!

The only thing good about the mere 3-year run is that I can watch the whole series without committing a year to the project. This will be the only television series I will buy on DVD.

Sorry to fans of Carnivale ... it was an interesting show .... but --and all a matter of taste, o'course -- not to my mind in the upper pantheon of greatest tv serieses of all time.

I'll be interested to know what the mini-series will include. Swearengen leaves Deadwood the second time the Gem burns down. He's killed years later outside of a hotel, I think. I wonder if the show will end with him leaving the town. His leaving would hearld the end of the old...

But if the show were to end on Al scrubbing Jen's blood off the floor, I'd be happy.

And Doc is fictional, but he's also a fan favorite, and I think only he and McShane have been nominated for their performances. At least his absence is a curiosity.

Another favorite character is E.B. Farnum. Watching him, it was like Shakespeare had been resurrected. Those fantastic soliloquies of his!

As for Carnivale, I enjoyed the slow pace and performances of the first season. When they were told to speed things up, the series was rushed and fell completely apart. I pretty much hated most of the second season. Greatly disappointed was I. Ah, well.
