Another Hal Wilner Production inspired by POTC

Hal Wilner knows how to put together a great CD. He was the mastermind behind many great tribute albums that are favorites of my collection such as:

"Stay Awake" - Disney songs reinterpreted
"Amacord" - a tribute to Nino Rota
"That's the Way I Feel Now" - Tribute to Thelonious Monk
"Lost in the Stars - Tribute to Kurt Weil

And, now there's a new, 2 CD collection titled "Rogue's Gallery".

The story behind this collection is that, while filming Pirates, Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski became enamoured with pirate balads and sea shantys. They got Hal Wilner involved in putting together a collection of these songs reinterpreted by contemporary artists. There are some of the usual Wilner suspects involved as well as some new voices. Some of the artists include:

Nick Cave
Bryan Ferry
Sting
Rufus Wainwright (appearing with his Mom, Kate McGarrigle)
Bono (you know, the guy from U2 )
Mary Margaret O'Hara (Black Rider)
Stan Ridgway (Wall of Voodoo)
Lou Reed
David Thomas (Pere Ubu)
Gavin Friday (Virgin Prunes)

Anywyas, it's good stuff and fun listening. Don't be surprised if I'm singing sea shantys at the top of my lungs next time you see me.

PS, there's another Wilner collection on it's way in October - a re-working of the groundbreaking 1952 anthology of American Fold Music put together by CBS Early Show host, Harry Smith. This one stars Elvis Costello, Beck, Wilco, Sonic Youth, Beth Orton, Todd Rundgren, David Johansen, Nick Cave and more.

Mr. Wilner's been a busy man and for that I am grateful!

yes, but what songs are on there? Any chance of Sailor's Prayer? And is it sad that I'm more likely to recognize the songs than the artists?
