Top 10 Deadly Toys
Top 10 Deadly Toys
Ok- I am not laughing about dead or injured kids- but the way they wrote this article is downright funny. My daughter was launching her SkyDancer all over last night- so I got an extra giggle out of that. It was not recalled- not that I know of anyway. ![]() |

HI!
|
I grew up on Creepey Crawlies and Lawn Darts and I'm still alive. As a matter of fact, I wish I had a creepy crawlies set today!
Remember they had edible plastigoop as well. I can still recall that sickly sweet, somewhat crunchy taste of edible bugs. Yummy! |

When I was just a wee little lad, full of traumas and tears
My father bought a toy for me confirming all my fears A horror to behold it was, and it filled me full of dread And the moment I laid eyes on it I knew he wished me dead I went (CHORUS): OUCH!! when it cut and YAAHH!! when it shocked And GGAUGGH!! when it caught in my throat I merely went and picked it up and that was all she wrote The Consumer Product Safety Board said this toy takes many lives With lead paint and electrical hazards and edges just like knives But my daddy wants no sissy son and he says to "Be a Man" So I went and picked it up again and it sliced off both of my hands I went (CHORUS) I first ran left and then ran right then hid under a chair But the toy pursued relentlessly till it found me hiding there I reached for the switch to turn it off but my skin touched a hot bare wire And a thousand volts shot up my arm and set my clothes on fire I went (CHORUS) Well somehow I survived those years now I have my own little boy And yesterday I gave to him my dangerous little toy His eyes nearly popped right out of his head; in fact they did, and now he's blind Cause he didn't see those two sharp spikes that were sticking up from behind Now he goes (CHORUS) Dan Hart |

Of course, one thing we liked to do when I was a kid was go down to a construction site somewhere (and they were building a major freeway nearby so there were generally plenty) and have "dirt clod wars." Essentially a snowball fight with clumps of dirt. Learning the hard way that there was a rock in the middle of a clod was a bonus, not a detraction. The war continued until someone got hurt. Then we stopped for the day to resume soon. Scars, wounds, and trauma are the joy of growing up. If a few die along the way, I'm ok with that. Since we make too many of them anyway, we might as well use some as spares. |

I guess I can consider myself lucky that I was born too late to experience these "death toys".
I do own one of those "deadly" disco balls, but I only leave it on for like an hour at a time...my gosh, it's just common sense, you know!

Does anyone recall a toy from the 70's that consisted of two balls, each a bit larger than golf balls, but smaller than a tennis ball, connected by a piece of rope. They went by a few different names such as "Clackers" or "Click Clacks".
I vaguely remember everyone owning these when I was very young, and then shortly after, they were made illegal, probably for very good reason. ![]() |

Click Clacks. I believe they would shatter.

I so want a nuclear test lab now. I had a chemistry set and a microscope, but that's not as cool as a nuke lab. We had lawn darts as kids.
