According to one report Marceau asked his assistant, Babette, to bring to his bedside his beloved stage props, the invisible box and invisible rope.

Babette couldn't locate them, so he only pretended to bring them in. Marcel didn't seem to notice and smiled. Then a heavy wind blew in from the window and swept Marcel into heaven.

This according to the New York Times, anyway.
