Disneyland is shaping up nicely

We went to the park for a couple of hours last night to get our mind off of some personal issues. We had a wonderful time, even though we got a bit wet. Some quick observations:

- It would appear that they have moved Rod's piano to a new location at the Plaza next door. It is elevated now and it seems like it will be a nice spot for him.

- We didn't go in (saving it for tomorrow) but the outside of the Tiki Room looks terrific! They had all the torches going and everything looks so new. It was a welcome sight.

AND, I had my first Dole Whip yesterday. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Definitely creamier than I imagined. I was eying the floats pretty heavily, they looked so good, but decided to be a purist the first time out and go for unadulterated whip. That will not be the last one I have!

- Went on Small World for the first time since after the overlay. Has anyone else done this? I swear there are a bunch of things in there that I don't remember and more motion everywhere. The flying carpets were going and I don't remember seeing them work for a while. It really seemed nice inside and for some reason, the sound seems improved. I could be imagining it but something seemed different about the whole place.

- Splash is back open with the new seats. Very cool, although surely not going to increase capacity too much. There was only a 40 minute wait but it was raining at the time.

- Train is back and I REALLY missed that. The lines were long so we didn't ride but it was just great to hear the whistle.

- At 4:30, the return time for a Buzz FP was 9pm. It would appear that it is getting more popular.

- The new color scheme in Tomorrowland is a sight for sore eyes. I can't wait until the painting is done.

Anyway, we just got a really good feeling about the place yesterday, seeing everything start to come together for the anniversary. The park really looks 100 times better than it did last year. I'm so glad to see we finally got some attention. Good job, Matt.

I'm really excited about the Tomorrowland painting. The silver and silvery-blue look a lot better than the catpoo color.

I went single rider on Splash on Friday and didn't notice the new logs until I was about to step in. They now hold 7 people. (An added row in the back that holds 2.) The backrests are slightly closer together and slightly lower. But I think the reason for being shorter is because people would rest their chin on the backrest in front of them and when the log came to a sudden stop...pain to the throat. (I know this from experience.) Also the back of the log has a huge soft bumper so they don't hit so forcefully.

Ooh, Splash is open? Man, I'm so out of the loop these days.

MBC - Buzz is now officially open and is on the cover of the maps. Before, a lot of people had no clue it was open. I'm sure the lines will rival that of most anything else in the park now.

I rode Small World after it reopened and I'd agree that it looks better than ever. The overlays do have a great effect in that the ride is cleaned up thoroughly once a year.

We rode IASW yesterday, and yes, we were rather impressed with the carpet movements. Very nice indeed.

Checked out Splash, which was gorgeous for the most part, but had some things actually not working! Come on, they couldn't keep everything working for a week? There was one alligator with a disconnected neck, very disturbing and funny.

Anyone else notice that Brer Rabbit isn't stuck in honey anymore, but rather, stuck in a beehive? It's weird, how did Brer Fox trap him in a beehive? I guess they were sick of the fabric "honey" wearing out so quickly, but this new development doesn't make any sense (not that you could actually get trapped in honey either, but still).

It was nice to yell "Bear Ass!" again.

The Twain is gorgeous, nice job there.

Tiki Room is still perfectly gorgeous, thankfully. Nothing dead yet. Here's hoping it'll stay that way.

We rode the train around, which was fun. The Primeaval World diorama had a terrible shadow on it - lighting needs tweaking.

What else....um, the chicken strips and mozzarella sticks at Stage Door are actually rather good.
