Yosemite Cabin Information - cross post

I figured I'd make this easy to find:

Where Scenic Wonders is located (map)
General map of Yosemite area

Commmunity Map (Link)
Once you get to the community, this is the map to use. We are in Scenic Wonders which is on the top left side of the community map. We are going to have to wing it with parking and try and get as many cars into the parking area as we can, leaving the larger ones near the exit for transporting groups.

IMPORTANT INFO:
  • Check in is at 4:00 pm. I will be there right at 4 to grab the keys. If you get there early and want to hook up, we'll be in Oakhurst until about 2:30. My cell works in about 1/2 of my brother's house. PM me if you would like his house phone number.
  • Check out time is 11 am.
  • "Please leave property in the same conition it was when you arrived. Property will be inspected at the time of check out"
  • "Quiet hours of the community are from 10 pm - 8 am"
  • For road and weather conditions call 209.372.0200
  • Snow chains are required November - April
  • There are no stores in the immediate area.
If you want to do something cool, go to 7422 Yosemite Park Way Yosemite, CA 95389 in Google Earth and take a look at the cabin.

Important Phone Numbers:
Cabin Phone Nuber: 209.372.9200

Cell phones may NOT work at the cabin but may work in Yosemite Valley. To make outgoing calls on the house phone, you MUST use a Calling Card.

I am soooo ready for this.......

So, is this where we post what to bring? I'm just wondering about extras, given the size group we have. (Large serving bowls, extra griddles for bacon, etc). Still, it looks like it's pretty well stocked.

Cabins... wimps!!

This whole time I thought y'all were going camping again with tents and bonfires and trees with the imminent danger of being eaten alive by bears and mountain lions looming over your heads.
That's what I get for not reading the Yosemite thread. Next thing you'll be telling me is that Lashbear is going to be in town.
Cabins...

****. Looks like we'll have to buy chains now, since they're not optional like we originally thought. This trip is getting more expensive by the day.

Also, where is the chain fitting/parking area before we enter the cabin community?

T - check around before actually purchasing your chains, some (not all but more than just a few) of the auto parts places will refund your money if you return the chains unopened/unused within a certain time frame, 2 weeks seemed to be the norm the last time I needed to check into that.

Where can we get up-to-the-minute info. Chains required November thru April is a predictive statement made in October that may not match reality in April.

In the other thread, it was mentioned that the snow level is now at 6,000 feet. I'm not sure any of the roads we'll travel are that high.

How do we find out for sure 'bout chains? Chains of Love. I mean, er, car chains.

I'm renting the wheels, as far as I know, they do not provide chains. Crap, I guess I gotta find some when I'm in Fairfield heading to JB factory.

Rental car companies will NOT provide chains (I learned this standing in the endless line to pick up my car in Reno a few months ago when it was actually snowing outside).

The restriction is must carry chains, not necessarily use them. And if you have the choice get cables they're lighter and easier to put on should you need to, which you probably won't.

And check your owners manual. My new car has restricitons that you must only use cables and there are two tire sizes where you can't use cables or chains at all.

Disneyphile - do you know anyone with a pair of chains you can borrow?

You are required to carry chains. You're not required to have them installed. This is a Park requirement not a cabin requirement. However, if it snows - and there are snow flurries predicted for this Friday - you may have to install your chains. If you have 4-wheel drive, you won't need them. (T-I'm not sure your call needs them being an all-wheel drive.)

I'm not sure what they do at the Park entrance - if they quiz you about chains or not, but if it does snow, you probably WILL need them. I don't have any either at this point and was hoping not to have to get them.
