Wow, how did I miss that Blake Edwards directed this? I'd love to see it - but I must confess to still be suffering from Post-50th-exhaustion. Then again, perhaps a cemetary picnic is just the sort of low-key thing I need.

Sadly, I may have to miss this one, too. And it's another favorite movie. I think there's a good chance I'm attending a 25th Anniversary party for my high school. Two friends from out of town are coming in for the party and I really want to see them. But we shall see.

What an interesting concept! Classic film and picnic under the stars--but at a cemetery! Sounds like it could be a welcome change of pace from the typical dinner-and-movie combo at a cineplex.

WOW! These things just keep getting better and better.

First, we went to The Grove/Farmer's Market for some play time and to pick up picnic supplies. (We also went to the Organized Living Going Out of Business 70% off sale.) That was a very relaxing and fun several hours.

Then, we headed over to the cemetery to get in the queue. We parked the car then headed over to find our spot for the evening. On the way, BlueErica and I spotted the coolest gravestone. It looked just like the Moonliner from afar, when in fact, it was a missille. We really need to wander the cemetery during the day. It's such a a cool place!

We set up "camp", opened our wine, French lemonade, 4 different gourmet cheeses, lots of fruit, 3 types of fresh bread, 3 types of meat, and luscious desserts - including some VERY expensive but great Ginger biscuits.

The film started at 9 and began with a short film about the restoration of the cemetery, then it was on to Breakfast at Tiffany's. It's been a while since I've seen the film and, as I remember, it was absolutely superb.

We were in the midst of the film when Ms. Hepburn says to George Peppard "How do I look?" He replies, "Very good! I must say I'm amazed". Chris and I looked at each other in our own amazement because this is a sound bite used in a "Dimitri from Paris" song. Later in the film Patricial Neals says "I AM a very stylish girl" - ANOTHER line used in the song.

Did I mention that Dimitri from Paris is tres swank?

The song is called Une Very Stylish Fille and you can hear a bit here

So, yes, we swanked it up a bit last night. Much more than we intended. Unintentional Swank.......I like the sound of that.

Last night was fun, a few additonal musings of my own:

I was so single-minded about having some pastry and coffee, I failed to realize the possibility of crepes - we must go back for those, though the pastry and coffee was perhaps better themed to the movie.

We opted on skipping the seemingly expensive picinic dinners from the Farm in order to make our own meal from the Farmers Market. You know that adage about grocery shopping when your hungry? That goes double for wandering gourmet shops. I must say though, we picked up four exquisite cheeses thanks to the guidance of our cheese guide (there must be a name for this?). Likewise, I was quite satisfied with the Boujolais recommended by the shop Sommelier. In any case we had a great picnic.

The movie was delightful, and much swankier than I remember - There's a party sequence which I could see being some future LoT celebratory extravaganza.

Songs with "moon" or "river" in them - you'd be surprise how many there are, and how late you'll stay up trying to remember them all.

It's scorpion season, or maybe sanke, bee, or stinging nettle season, so be careful where you step, or lounge. And watch out when Tramspotter offers to open a blocked airway.

I'm so gald these things are on a Saturday night - I don't feel so bad about sleeping through the next morning.

Oh, and never give an EMT Pancakes before an "incident".

Maitre Fromager is not the term I was looking for, but I can't seem to find that elusive term for the cheese equivilent to Sommelier.

Ahhh, the beauty of the internet. I IMed our French Friend DLRP_bopazot and he suggestedUn Fromager.
