Vegimite- an acquired taste! [and Lashes in SD]
Ok, so I tried the Vegimite that Lashbear gave me. I did a little research on it first.
It's made from brewer's yeast spent after the Beer manufacturing prossess. It came from beer, how bad could it be? The Men Down Under romanticized it. It sounded good to me! I found a recipe on the Kraft website. Toasted bread, with butter, spread Vegimite on thin (Rob said use sparingly!), then add avocado. I'll try anything once, I've had Bar-B-que Rattlesnake (tastes just like chicken-really!), chocolate covered ants, snails, squid, tripe, and sushi. I'll try anything once just to say I have. Now I can say I tried vegimite. But if anything I have ever eaten tasted like it shouldn't be eaten, it was that. I like things spicy, salty, pungent, you name it. I've had stinky cheese that tasted like sweat socks. But this made me come up with a new name for it because of how I felt after I ate it: Vomite ( I Mite Vomit) Am I sorry I tried it? Not at all. It was worth the experience. Thanks again to Rob and Greg! I know millions of people must enjoy it (though I can't imagine how) but it's a taste that's not for me. Please don't let it stop you from trying it. So, did you try it? What did you think? Inquiring taste buds want to know!

![]() IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:
Vegemite should NOT be used with Avocado under any circumstances.... anymore than Sardines should be served with Strawberry Ice-cream I can't think of anything more disgusting myself, and I'm really sorry you did this. THe taste by itself should be OK - but Avocado with it is just wrong. ![]() I am writing to Kraft to complain that they are creating negative relations with overseas customers. Seriously. ![]() If you DO want to use it with something, I highly recommend spreading it (thinly) on ThinKrisps™ They seem to be made for each other !!!!!. ![]()

Actually, the taste with avacado wasn't too bad. It truley was the flavor and odor of the Vegimite it's self that was the turn-off for me. But I'm sure there would have been a better complement to the flavor than avacado.
Perhaps it was my dad's beer and wine making days making days, or the fact that I use yeast in bread making and am familiar with it as an ingredient that shouldn't be consumed by itself. Whatever the cause, I still ate the whole plate of toast to give it a fair try. It wasn't so bad that I couldn't eat it, but bad enough that I said to myself "Well, there's something I never have to do again". And I did feel sick afterwards. Perhaps I should have gotten some ideas from you first, huh? My mistake. And again I do appreciate that you gave me the chance to experience something I've been curious about all these years! So, take heed from Lashbear every one! Spread it [very] thinly on ThinCrisps! And please post your experiences here!

Well, a quartet of folks tried it on official LashPair-supplied crackers during dinner at the Sunday Meat ... so perhaps they'll chime in.
I tried it once, back in 2002 ... and I never need to go there again. |

HI!
|
It's not bad. I've willingly eaten it 3 times so far. It's really sort of good on Melba Rounds. But, I'm not going out to buy my own jar of it any time soon.

It was...an experience. A salty experience. I think JWBear described it best: Like eating bullion.

I find it agreeable on Ry-Krisps. A little sure goes a long way, though.
