Iron Man 2

Ok, I saw a disscusion about Iron Man 2 here someplace but can't find it. So, the bits after the credits we see a car pull up, and focus on the liscense plate. Is there any significance to anything on this plate? Then, Agent Phil Coulson steps out. The Avengers were already mentioned in the movie, and Agent Phil Coulson has a part in it, so that I get. But then the object they are digging up in the desert flashes on the screen for 0.7 seconds, yet I realize it's Thor's Hammer. And it turns out Agent Phil Coulson is also in Thor. What do these movies/stories have in common (other than Agent Phil Coulson- dang the guy gets around!). I don't realy see the connection. And why are they using Iron Man as the launching pad for these movies (other than Iron Man is in Avengers), instead of using it for Iron Man 3 like most movies would do? It's just wierd to me.....

I was never a big comic book fan, but they all seemed to be linked by "S.H.I.E.L.D" (which Agent Phil Coulson works for), a fictional espionage and law-enforcement agency in the Marvel Comics Universe. In Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor, the acronym stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
