For your next solo game night
Hey, even the most popular people occasionally find themselves without a playing partner and must amuse themselves for an evening. (I confess I do it all the time.) For your next game night, you might consider Disaster On Everest. It's from the tiny game publisher Victory Point Games, and my name is on the packaging as a play tester. I volunteered via email and was sent a prototype version a few months ago. It's a fun, suspenseful game in which your own Everest guide operation tries to safely escort a group of tourists, of varying ability, to the summit of Everest and back. As the game progresses, a killer storm gets ever closer, and when it hits, you have to make some tough choices to get as many as possible back to high camp.
I recommend this game, along with my favorite from this publisher, Nemo's War, a solo game which let's you play Captain Nemo and sail the Nautilus around the globe on a mission either of exploration and discovery, or liberation, or just plain vengeance. It packs an amazing amount of options, story and strategy into a smallish envelope. All games from this company are custom printed and the components are modest, but usually nicely designed. Eventually, I'm hoping to try my hand at inventing a title of my own. If you're an aspiring game designer, you'll find lots of great info at their site. Okay, end of plug. |
