My box fan.

Summer of 77'
soon after a King died
it was so hot
one night
my family and I cried

will it ever cool down
seems the answer is no
must take flight
we really must
go

in the basement
family finally asleep
I center my sights
on a rusty box fan
now I don't need sheep

every summer
when it warms
the fan goes on
my sleep so deep
impervious to alarms

winter cold
is in the air
the wife gives
the usual shudder
and that do it stare

I know it must go
but to do without
means many nights
of sleep lost
in doubt

Bravo. And we sleep with a fan on all year round now. In winter, I just close the windows instead of leaving them open. Or I leave one open just a crack. I love our fan. If it stopped working right now, I'd have to go buy a new one or I wouldn't sleep tonight.

If we go somewhere, to Vegas or something, and sleep in a Hotel. It's pure torture. I've thought about bringing a big fan with us just for that reason.
