Poor, poor NBA players

Gosh. That racist dress code. The financial burden they will bear. Motivated by a desire to separate them from their culture. How dare their bosses and those paying their salaries make such a rule.

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/19/D8DBG9H8H.html

"I feel like if they want us to dress a certain way, they should pay for our clothes," he said. "It's just tough, man, knowing that all of a sudden you have to have a dress code out of nowhere. I don't think that's still going to help the image of the league at all."

I say we all join in unity with them and boycott everything having to do with the NBA. Merchandise. TV broadcasts. Going to games. When all that league revenue dries up that will surely teach the owners a lesson when they no longer have the money to pay them millions of dollars each season.

At the risk of being quoted out of context, we are in total agreement on this matter.

What a bunch of babies! If receptionists across the country can manage to dress professionally, surely NBA players can manage to scrape together enough funds to purchase some slacks.

I mean heavens! The idea of dresing professionally while working! Oh, the humanity!

I didn't think there was anything out there that could make me respect men's basketball less -- but they managed to find a way.

I guess the owners can require what they want - but honestly, I don't see why they're targeting the bling - not sure what they gain by it. From recent news events, it seems they should focus more on player behavior rather than dress.

I read a quote by some guy who said the NBA had better give them a clothing stipend! And then it noted that he was getting paid $5 gazillion dollars over the next five years....please, give me a break!

IMO, the ones complaining the loudest are pouty, immature little boys in grown mens' bodies'. So, you're saying that you want to look like a thug, rather than a mature human being? Lovely. And yes, no matter how much you don't like it and want to deny it, you ARE role-models' for kids. You have responsibilities to your team and fans, so when the commish says to *gasp* dress professionally, shut up and do it.

..Hey, where'd this soapbox come from???

And I doubt the NBA believes that a dress code will fix all their problems. However, there is a perception problem and appearance is part of perception. Slacks won't magically make players behave, but it might make others perceive them differently. It's also a way to draw distinction between player and fan. (Aside from the obvious height difference.)

Let's be realistic -- if two people are brawling and one's wearing bling and one's in Dockers, the tendency is to afford more credence to the brawler in Dockers.

Angry

You dress like an adult, you tend to act like one. Dress like a punk...
Again, out of all of professional sports, I believe that the NBA has the highest percentage of criminal conduct amongst its players. I mean, they are drafting rookies straight out of high school, for petes' sake! How mature were any of us (guys, that is) when we were 18, 19 years old? And then they get a multi-million dollar contract and all the perks and bennys that go with being a pro sports player and no one to tell them whats right or wrong? What do they think is going to happen? I believe it's the NBA culture specifically and pro-sports generally that is creating these people. Selfish, self-centered little boys with more money than they've ever known, and no sense of restraint or responsibility.

Oy, the kids these days!

Oh, and remind me to let you know I happen to have an opinion on the matter.

I have no problem with the league requiring certain dress during game time (that is for players and for injured players sitting on the benches).

Making requirements about it anywhere else is just stupid, in my opinion.
