"Cars" wows theater owners in first public screening

"Cars" apparently had a good showing at ShoWest.

Not that a group of theater owners would have any reason to falsely hype up a movie or anything.

If anything, at ShoWest they'd have incentive to underplay a movie. The studios are essentially trying to sell their wares to the exhibitors and it always behooves the buyer to remain unimpressed.

Regardless, though, I hope Cars continues the Pixar trend of surprising me. With both Finding Nemo and The Incredibles thought the stories sounded kind of lame and was unimpressed with the trailers and then completely wowed by the movie. With Cars I am unimpressed with the story and find the trailers completely lame; eventually they won't surprise me but hopefully that is another few movies down to the road.

Ditto on the lameness of the Cars trailers. What has me expecting flop is that I enjoyed the trailers for The Incredibles, Nemo and Monsters, Inc..

I know trailers can be deceiving, so I'm glad to learn that the ShoWest crowed liked the film.

I suppose it's just my paranoid nature, but pixar knows that:

1. They have a sizable built in audience that will go see ANYTHING they put out

2. They know word-of-mouth sells more tickets that anything

So they put out a so-so trailer to curb expectations hoping that when people see the actual movie they say, hey I thought this would bite but it was really pretty good...

You can add this post into position #9 on my list of "Why Moonliner is not a movie producer..."

The trailer for "Finding Nemo" didn't wow me, but I loved the movie. The trailer for "The Incredibles" didn't wow me, and I only liked the film - it's probably on the list as my second to least favorite Pixar film, "A Bug's Life" being at the bottom. The trailer for "Cars" doesn't wow me either, though I do want to see the film, and we already have tickets for opening night. The cars are cute, but then, they look remarkably like the Chevron cars, and I love those.

I felt that way after seeing the teaser trailer on Cars, but the latest trailer is more appealing to me. That said, I'm not sure on how this will do box office-wise. But, Paul Newman voicing a race car, well, I've got to see this (and hear it).

Having "A Bug's Life" in their canon is a constant reminder to me that Pixar can produce crap. (Sorry, while it may have been a good kiddie film, it did not appeal to me one bit.)

And the fact that the cars in Cars look like the Chevron cars is, to my mind, an indication of low creativity.

I'd don't care which way the ShoWest crowd crowed, I'm still very doubtful about this one. Pixar's overdue for a flop, anyway.
