Drink Goodbye Glenn Ford

Great actor and one who shares my birth day. On the commentary for Superman The Movie, director Richard Donner commented on how Ford always wanted to be "shot" only from a certain side. I understand he thought one side of his face looked better than the other. I thought that was so "old hollywood." Another classic actor gone.

Quote:
Actor Glenn Ford, who played strong, thoughtful protagonists in films such as "The Blackboard Jungle," "Gilda" and "The Big Heat," died Wednesday, police said. He was 90.

Ford appeared in scores of films during his 53-year Hollywood career. The Film Encyclopedia, a reference book, lists 85 films from 1939 to 1991.

He was cast usually as the handsome tough, but his acting talents ranged from romance to comedy. His more famous credits include "Superman," "Gilda," "The Sheepman," "The Gazebo," "Pocketful of Miracles" and "Don't Go Near the Water.

I actually didn't know he was still alive. There aren't many "greats" left in the world and now there is one less.

I just watched Gilda and remembered how fabulous he was.

RIP Mr. Ford.

I was in Hollywood today and I saw they left flowers at Glenn Ford's Star on the Walk of Fame. There were pictures from Superman the movie. Was neat to see....

Actually, he did not make the event at the Egyptian. His health was failing even then, and he made a videotape appearance only.

He was a class act, that's for certain.

When I visited Hawaii in 1985 I stayed at a hotel that Glenn Ford owned. I did not know that little fact when I first made the reservations, but when I checked in I noticed his picture behind the counter.
"Employee of the month?" I asked, nodding toward the photo.
"No," said the Front Desk employee. "Gl ---"
"Manager on duty?" I interrupted.
"That's Glenn Ford." He said.
"I see. Did he try to pass some bad checks here?" I gave him a look of great concern.
"No, he owns the hotel."
"Hmm ..."

And then I took the key to my room and was off. That was the beginning of my Hawaiian odyssey but then end of my indirect association with the Glenn Ford Empire. Oddly enough, I do not believe I know his films at all. But I do know one thing ...

To-night there is a new member in the greatest rock 'n roll band in Heaven. Somewhere right now, Jimi is tuning up his guitar. And somewhere nearby, an actor from the film Gilda, is being handed a guitar and wondering what the F is going on.
