Used DVDs from Netflix
Has anyone purchased any of the used DVDs from Netflix? Any comments?
I know I have received a few rentals from Netflix which were damaged and unwatchable. Today I dipped my toe in the water and bought a used DVD. For the price of $5.99, I figured it would be worth the risk. We'll see what I find in my mailbox in a few days from now.

Spend a few bucks on this stuff. Other than the one that had a full crack, I've yet to come across a Netflix DVD that remained unplayable after using it. Works wonders.

wow, I never knew you could buy used from Netflix. I've bought used from Warehouse and Blockbuster and have had no issues. I bought some from Suncoast and have has a few problems. Mostly disks that look like they were skidded across a cement floor.

I bought one just to test it out. Completely pain free and the DVD played just fine. So long as you don't care about not having any case inserts, it is fine and cheap.

Wow, considering how many Netflix discs I've got that were in crappy condition (most of which would play anyway), I myself would hesitate to buy any that they deemed old enough to take out of service (and probably would not want any they took out of service for unpopularity).

I bought a couple a from Netflix and they work great. The cases are in good shape too.
The problem, as Alex pointed out, is that you don't get the cool paperwork inside the case. I guess they just throw that away? It kinda stinks, especially with the 2-disk special edition DVDs that the companies lavish so much attention on.

They do warn you that you won't get the original case, case artwork, or inserts (though you get a nice case).
Personally, when I buy a DVD I transfer it to a slim jewel case, print out a replacement front art piece for the case and then put the original case (with all artwork and booklets, generally unread) in storage. So it isn't any big loss that I'm not getting some of that stuff. |
