Scary Santa

Probably a rite of passage many people share, scared %$$less of Santa.

I'm sure my Mom has a few of me. I remember a horrifying one, after Xmas, of one of the party guests dressed as the New Year Baby, and me, screaming my head off. Hmm, I wish I had a copy, I remember that was pretty funny.

Those pictures just brought on a wave of sympathy for Flippyshark, who is a full-time Santa in FL this year.

Oh, believe me, I am seeing more than my share of terrified toddlers and shrieking infants. I'm certainly used to it, but I'm a little tired of the parents who seem to think that if they FORCE the poor kid onto Santa's lap and leave the traumatised child there, they will eventually get a good picture. (A few folks actually buy pictures of their kid screaming, but most of them seem to think that if they stand by the camera and say, "C'mon, Tyler, SMIIIILE!" the kid is going to come around. It never happens.)

Just a side note - When did it become law that boys had to be named Tyler, Dylan or Matthew, and girls all became Bailey? I have not yet met a single Lisa, Heidi, Jesse or Greg.

The big ticket items this year: Bratz dolls (god help us all), Nintendo DS (wish I had bought stock, EVERY kid wants one), Butterscotch the Humongous Toy Pony, Baby Alive (the doll that eats and craps), iPods, cel phones, PSP, PS3, and a surprising number of requests for the classic Easy Bake Oven.

Good grief! I don't blame some of those kids. Some of those Santas are truly scary looking.

I'm completely clueless as to why a parent would give a screaming child to Santa. Isn't the whole point of seeing Santa because the kid wants to? Just seems mean to me.

I am trying to remember but I don't think my kid was crying when I put him in Santas arms. That didn't happen until after.

We did buy the pictures because they are funny.

I think he was more traumatized when the tree fell on him and engulfed him completely.

Scary tree.
