HI!
|
Remember the good ole days of Disneyland shopping?
Inspired by the candle thread and my perusal through Yesterland I found myself missing certain shops (I guess restaurants count too, but shopping is the key).
With a heavy thank you to Yesterland here are my favorite lost shops: Candle Shop Flower Shop - I just think it reall brightened up main street and made it seem like an old-town street. The Character Shop I still call that space by that name. Indian Trading Post Mostly a "boys" shop, but I was a Hot Wheels girl. And, one I'd love even more now - the One of a Kind Shop The Candy Shop in the Castle. Ummmmm, Rock Candy. And, not a store, but I LOVED those futuristic "speaker phones" at the exit of the Circle Vision Theater. What was your shopping love that no longer exists at Disneyland? |

It is rather sad that all these very special stores are gone. I can't remember any of them. ![]() My only memory of shopping at DL as a kid was when my grandmother bought me an Alice in Wonderland Choose Your Own Adventure storybook. I remember there being lots of book choices. I always thought that it had been purchased at the Emporium, but now that I know the stores more intimately I know it was the shop behind New Century Timepieces. BTW, that location just stopped selling books as of this month when they reopened Crystal Arcade and its outlying stores. I don't think there's anywhere else on Main Street to buy books. ![]()

Oh the Character Shop most definatley.
And I loved the phones... I had all but forgotten about them. Though I think what I really miss more, is the adult theme merchandise that used to be around in the 80's and 90's

How sad that it seems disneyland shops went from a top of the line selection to second rate merchandise you can find at any disney store.

HI!

Unique. That's what the stores were. Now, it's mostly the same old stuff - with a few exceptions.

At the time, the shops bored me. My mom, however; would spend ours in New Orleans Square. If those shops were still there today, I can easily see myself following in her footsteps. All that cool stuff - now we get pins.

I don't remember details but I remember the land specific and unique items. I do remember the Emporium having divided sections. I liked those.
I'm holding out hope that with the new execs the "strip mall" atmosphere and every store carrying the same item will be replaced with more land specific and unique items again. |

When my mom used to take me in the late 60's & 70's, Main Street was like another mall. So many different shops and specialized items. She'd spend hours on Main Street with me in a stroller!! Now all those stores are just various styles of Disney Stores. The park still has stuff that's unique to it but not like before.
