Betting on the Super Bowl for fun and profit

Okay kids, this one's free...the next'll cost ya.

2-bet parlay:

Cardinals to win (+200)
Over 46.5 total points scored

$50 to win $235 (4.7:1)

There's not a lot of value at this Super Bowl. The Steelers are 7 point favorites...and in all reality, that line is probably spot on. A good play, I believe, is to go with an underdog if it has a realistic chance to win and handcuff that bet with the most likely path to victory. In this case, if the Cardinals win, it'll most likely be because they scored and scored again. So if you like the Cards to win, you might as well throw in the Over to bump the odds from 2-1 to 5-1. Is there a better than 20% chance that Arizona will score enough to win this game? Fvck and yes. In fact, I'd put the likelyhood of an Arizona win (and, it follows, covering the over) at close to 40%. This bet is one of the few ways to get the best of it this year.

Prop bets:

I don't usually mess with Super Bowl prop bets but two caught my eye this year.

Anquan Boldin...MVP (15-1)

This is a good value for an incredible talent with something to prove. With all the attention Fitzgerald is sure to draw from Pitt's D, Boldin is an absolute steal here for this price.

MVP thanks:

sportsbook.com is giving odds on who the MVP will thank first during his post-game interview. Check out this lead-pipe cinch:

God -125 (bet $125, win $100)

Sweet fvcking Moses! Martha, I need $100,000 to put on God. Seriously, is there any chance the MVP doesn't thank God first? Nope. And if Kurt Warner wins it, Oh Lord! Bet the farm on this one, people. You'll thank me later.

Isn't "who the MVP thanks" bet just about the most easily manipulated outcome possible and if the player did manipulate it not one non-bettor would care.

If I were friends with a player I'd be texting them right now saying "hey, as a favor to me, if you win MVP could you start by thanking buttersquash?"

As for the game, I'm going to place my bet on the league's humiliation being completed. That is, the Cards to win.

For the purposes of wagering, are God and Jesus considered a single divinity or separate entities?

I'd say it depends on the religion of the speaker and whether it is trinitarian.

For Warner that would be a strong yes on same, but maybe the speaker is a Jehovah's Witness/Muslim/etc. and so no, different.

So for fairness, the post-game interview should start with "before we get into it, what religion are you?"

I don't really care about the football part. I'm in it for the commercials and the food but being a West coast girl, I'll go for the Cards!

Unless a receiver breaks off some huge RACs, I would think the quarterback who throws him the ball would win MVP. Is there a "Matt Leinart for sucking" option on the MVP thanks bet?

Sadly, I must root for the team from Arizona. I do like the Kurt Warner story, and Roethlisberger's about as big a drip in the God department. Plus, a Cardinal win will prove once and for all that the NFC West is the toughest division in football.

Niners! NINERS!!

For the record, here's the board for who the MVP might thank first:

Quote:
Coach +600

Does not Thank Anyone +500

Family +400

God -125

Teammates +200

I remember when people around here felt it was the Niners(!) birthright to be playing in the SB every year.

Never found the $100k. All I bet was $50 on the Cards/over and $5 on Boldin for MVP

I assume they void the play and refund all bets.

Duh...I forgot "does not thank anyone" was on the board at 5-1.
