Value of 1958b DLR Map?

I am not soliciting buyers but if you are interested, you can PM me.

My friend Mary found her large poster map of the DLR in her parents' house. She had forgotten all about it. It was still in the original mailing tube addressed to her, postmarked 1958.

Here's what she e-mailed me:
Quote:
It’s a 1958b map. There are also “a” and “c” versions. Supposedly the “b” is the rarest. There’s one for sale on Ebay now for $300.00. An auction just ended at $770. They also offered some photos and a ticket stub with the map.
At some point, the map had been scotch taped to the wall but the tape is only at the very edge of the margins. Otherwise, the map looked perfect to me. It also looks like it was printed yesterday, since it's spent most of the time since 1958 rolled up in its mailing tube.

I wish I could buy it. It is a thing of beauty.

Any idea about value or thoughts on how and where to sell this?

It's worthless. But I'll take it off her hands for twenty dollars, as a favor to you.

If the whole thing isn't a hoax. There's no such thing as a 1958 "DLR" map.

I'm so touched, iSm.

That's what she said. 1958. I saw the map in person yesterday and said, "Are you sure it's 1958?" She said, "Absolutely." I can tell you for sure that whatever the date is, she's not misleading anyone intentionally. Her date comes from the mailing tube's postal cancellation mark, I think but am not sure.

I can ask for a photo. It's got the subs, which I assumed was anticipation, if the map was from 1958. It's got Liberty Square and a couple of other things that never happened.

Don't listen to he's just being snide about the fact that "DLR" refers to "Disneyland Resort" which was a term not used until DCA was built.

I'd definitely start scouring ebay for anything similar, maybe contacting sellers with similar memorabilia.

He's right to correct that. Thanks, iSm.

iSm, may we someday meet at the Hub for a snark-off. I see scorched rosebushes and a melted statue.

Here's how to tell the difference between the 3 maps.

In my experience, the 1968 Map is the rarest and commands the largest price - especially if it is not folded. But, it's been a while since I've been actively collecting paper (I have a TON of maps). I don't even remember which 1958 map I own.

Le sigh, me wants.

Were maps ever sold rolled in the Park? I know the earliest map I purchased (1976) was folded - and it would seem pretty hard to sell a souvenir map in a tube you had to carry around all day. Especially before 1976, when the idea of Disneyland collectibles was far less widespread.
