Lasik?

Anyone have any experience with Lasik or similar options?

I'm just starting to think about this and doing some initial research.

Links to any independent reviews would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I know some people swear by it. However, my husband used to work at the University of Washington Medical Center eye clinic and according to him most of the docs that performed Lasik wouldn't have considered it for themselves.

I have also heard that you really need to pick a facility and medical team that have lots of experience with this procedure. You do not want to use a coupon when signing up to have someone point a laser into your eye.

my father had similar surgery, did wonders for him and he is very happy with it. now only needs glasses to drive at night.... a huge difference from the coke bottles he used to wear.

Eric just had Lasik done this past spring, and he loves the result. He said it was minimally uncomfortable, but his vison improved immediately and he would do it again it a heartbeat. Research your doc's, though- lots of people who had gone to Canada (we're close to the border) where it's cheaper are unhappy with both the results and the follow-up care. Eric still has to where 'cheater's' when reading, but otherwise his coke bottle glasses are a thing of the past.

Lol- Name! Just read your post about Coke bottle glasses....

I had old school RK radikerintolgy (sp?) I can see now...and I love not haveing to rely on glasses. I ahd horrible vision before ...like 20/500.....downside. bright lights and sun give me severe headaches. I see starbursts at night. Everlight has 8 lines shooting from the middle of it, because they made 8 cuts in each eye. antiglare glasses help alot. needless to say driving at night with out my glasses is challenging. Also my left eye can never be 20/20. it's only correctible to a negative 20/20, but without glasses I now have 20/15 vosion. they also gave me a slight stygmatism that I didn';t have before...would I do it again? without hesitation. I hated being almost blind.

I kind of like being almost blind. I have approximately 20/750 vision. I think my other senses are heightened a bit. My husband swears I have radar because I know when he's sneaking up behind me to swat my butt, I know precisely when and where he's aiming, and I block it right as he swings. I also tend to have very acute hearing. But it's not just that. I'm really good about picking my way through an familiar room at night. And when I want to do really fine embroidery, it's nice to be able to focus up close -- as in nearly touching my nose!

Plus, I already have super crappy night vision and I'm already super sensitive to the sun, thanks to some medications I took in my teens. I can't imagine it getting any worse.

it made me paranoid. I had that diorder where you keep doing the same things over nad over again. If my glasses fell off my nightstand or got moved I could not find them. I was paranoid someone would break in and I wouldn't be able to see to find a weapon. I checked the doors and window loks about 40 times before I went to bed and sometimes i would wake up to check them again. At one time I was sleeping with a gun under my pillow. After I had the surgery I stopped doing all that. I still check the door to make sure they are locked, btu I rarely check the windows now. I check the windows only when i'm alone in the house and only the first night. I'm really happy I got it done. (actually they had to do it twice because my eye pressure is so low they didn't heal right the first time and NO I don't do drugs...LOL...)
