Ursula 1000
Just thought I'd post about an artist I've just heard and liked, Ursula 1000. KCRW has been playing their latest single, Here Comes Tomorrow from their upcoming studio release of the same name. Unfortunately, it is unreleased so I can't point you to a clip. You'll just have to keep listening to KCRW.
I have checked out some of their previous releases. It seems that each album's got a totally different flavor, which I find cool. For instance, Their 2004 release, Ursadelica has a definite funk flair all the way through. And then there's 2002's Kinda' Kinky. Just check out the cover! ![]() Three guesses as to the style of tracks on that one (and yes, that is actual Shag cover art, not just Shag-style). Although, I have no idea how to describe the style of Here Comes Tomorrow. It seemed all its own. Guess I'll have to wait for the full release to see if the album's got an overiding genre or not. In the mean time, I've got to decide which album(s) I'd like to aquire.

Ah KCRW I hate when they do that - or maybe actually I love it becasue it keeps me looking for good music.
I've been a fan of Ursula 1000 since I picked up a copy of Kinda Kinky the last time I was in Chicago. Since then I've aquired Ursadelica and The Now Sounds of Ursula 1000. All of them definately fit the swanky groove of this place, and I will certainly add the new one to my collection - when it becomes available of course. You're certainly welcome to have a listen to my collection, but I'll bet you'll still want the cover art for these discs.

HI!
|
Ursula 1000 has been on my play list for a while now. I love their swanky sound! We heard Here Comes Tomorrow the other day while driving around and instantly LOVED it. I made it a point to be in the car when the DJ announced the playlist. No surprise it was Ursula 1000. This band has moved into my top 10 list lately and I think they're going to be there for a while.
Oh, and Feb 5th was the release date I heard Liza say. |

HI!
|
Well, we'll see how great my recall is since it was Ann Litt that was the DJ.
EDIT: There were THREE things played at various times throughout the day that I wanted to get. Ursula 100 was one, Herb Albert Re-Whipped was another and the latest from Belle and Sebastian was the third. Belle and Sebastian will be out February 7th, so that's where I got that date. HI!
|
I've obviously been in my car too much lately.
The Show was Metropolis with Jason Bently and, if you go here scroll down to Metropolis and choose Listen then go 32 minutes into the program you'll find Here Comes Tomorrow. This song is VERY Psychodelic Furs, Gary Numan, Echo and the Bunny inspired. The whole set Jason Bently played around this song is very late '70s- early 80's inspired. LOVE the matador trumpet thang. That's the only clue I would've had that this was Ursula 1000. |

HI!
|
I heard another track from the forthcoming album today and I can't wait for it to be released.
There's a resenblence to Serge Gainsbourg's "Ford Mustang" in the song "Kaboom". Tres cool! |

I'm not too pleased with Ursadelica, but I totally groove to New Sounds of and Kinda' Kinky. I look forward to hearing the new cut.

I haven't heard the whole album, just clips, but the little I heard of Ursadelica has me drooling, moreso than Kinda Kinky.
