IMac Help
Any suggestions would be totally cool.
SO, I'm trying to update my Imac so I can do some "school" stuff online. I need to, apparently, update my browser. I am runing on 09 and every other browser I see says they need to use OX. Which I have and can upload off the disk anytime. I did that but then I couldn't uploard my internet stuff to get online. So I uninstalled OX and ran O9, which gave me internet access again. So, do you think I can now install OX and still get internet access so I can download Safari, so I can be all good for "school?" Does anyone have any experiance in this area? Thank!! ![]() |

OK, you are kinda confusing me. Let me see if I have this right..
You have an iMac (G3 I'm guessing. They are the colorful ones). OS 9 is installed on it, but you want to upgrade to OS X to go on the internet. But, when OS X is installed, you can't get online. Can you post the specs on your computer? You should be able to by pressing the Apple logo in the top left of your screen and selecting "About this Mac". What would be useful is your processor speed, the amount of memory you have, if you have firewire ports, and the version of OS X you are trying to upgrade to. |

Hey,
Here's what I have: Disk Cache: 8160 k Virtual Memory:257k Built IN Memory: 256k PowerPC G3: 600MHz The Mac OX is version 10.0.3 So, I'm wondering if now that I'm online, I can upload OX and still retain my Internet? I need to upgrade so I can go on a university website for classes. I need to upgrade my browser to Safari or Firefox, but I can't do that unless I'm online and have OX. MS Explorer has no upgrade for Mac's anymore. Ugh. Any suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks!!!!!! |

Try running and installing this: Apple Firmware Update for iMac Are you trying to install OS X 10.0.3 or 10.3? There is a big difference between the two. |

What ISP do you use (AOL, Broadband, etc?) You should be able to just download the OSX version of your ISP's software (ex. AOL for OSX,) install it under OSX, and surf with Safari. To switch back to OS9, just switch your start-up disk under System Prefs in the dock on your screen. Use control panels under OS9 to switch back to OSX.
This is exactly what I just had to do, and although it's a slight headache installing and reorganizing files, it ends up working fine. (I run an old 400 MHz Graphite iMacDV under OSX 10.3.9) When I need to use an old OS9 app, I just start-up under OS9, which works smoother than opening Classic in OSX. |

I tried getting the OSX off the NetZero disk. It loaded onto OSX, but for some reason it kept failing so I couldn't get online.

Ok. The pooch is screwed.
![]() Ok, my ISP says to reload thier program. I did. The University says to download Netscape, which oddly enough was on my Imac all along. Ain't I dumb? So, any suggestions since I can now switch between OS9 and OSX but on OSX I can't access the internte, the ISP program doesn't do anything when I click on it, nor does the netscape I downloaded for OSX. Would removing OSX and then reloading be a good idea? BTW, I'm now checking to see if the university site works on Netscape. ![]() Any help will get you a free dolewhip. ![]() |
