Ancient frilled shark caught in Japan
This is really cool, albeit sad, since the creature didn't live very long. (It loked utterly decrepit anyway.) Amazingly cool looking beast, though. Frilled shark on video |

				            | I can't seem to make videos work at the moment but I saw the pic and read the article. At first I felt bad for the shark that they brought it up and put it in a pool, but when they said it lives a thousand feet below the sea and must have been ill to come up this close, I guess it's not so bad. The Japanese are sure finding some interesting creatures lately, giant squid and some other fish if I recall right and now this shark. They must be sinking a lot of time and money into these projects.

				            | I was really mad when I heard it died because they put it in a tank. Wildlife belongs in the wild (and that goes for any future Sharkies Monterey "catches" too). But if it was sick and they didn't go and bring it from the depths then it was a bit more 'acceptable'. |

[environmental rant] It's because they have depleted and contaminated their fishing stocks almost beyond repair and are forced to fish deeper and deeper (and further out) to maintain catch size. [/environmental rant] Anyway, totally cool shark.
