Exit Charles Lane

The characters he played would be appalled at his lack of punctuality.

I always thought that when he went it would close the book on an era. Is anyone else prominent still around who was making movies in the early '30s?

Anita Page is still around (not well known today, but she was big in the late silent and up to mid-1930s), she worked mostly for MGM.

I'm sure there must be a few more, but Anita is the only name that comes immediately to mind. I don't know if there is a directory of residents at the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, but there has to be a compatriot of Anita's there, too.

Charles Lane was quoted as being one of the first to join SAG, I believe he was actually card member #1. (I wonder what number SAG members there are now?)

Anyway, RIP Mr. Lane, you may have been typcast as old (and young) nasty coots, lawyers and sheriffs and whatnot, but you permeate 70 years of cinema and tv and you were good!

It's interesting to me that I never really knew who Charles lane was until this year. Sure, I'd seen him in theings, but never thought much about him. Then a coworker and I got into a discussion about films and actors and such and he mentioned Mr. Lane. Apparantly my coworker was mildly obsessed with the fact that the guy wasn't dead yet. Now, during the summer months when that coworker is on vacation, the guy finally takes his final bow.

Coincidentally, I've found myself watching a lot of older films lately and Lane keeps jumping out at me now thanks to my coworker and the fact that he's now dead.

RIP Mr. lane. Sorry I didn't pay attention to you until you died.
