The Scene
The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit is amazing. The exhibit starts with a history of the Scrolls and the area they were found in. Research is discussed and displayed of what the area may have looked like, where researchers think the scrolls have been written and why they ended up in caves. There is a virtual reality movie that added a perspective if seen before. The exhibit was extremely powerful. It is truly amazing how old the items are and what was occurring at that time. It was like a chapter of a history book come to life.

The exhibit shows every 15 minutes. Tickets are available online, by phone or in person. We bought our tickets at the museum and had a show time 90 minutes later. The rest of the museum is available with event admission. The 90 minutes gave us time to explore the rest of the museum, sit and have a cup of coffee and talk and view the virtual reality movie.

The exhibit was super crowded. The first chapter of your self guided tour states that the displays do not need to be viewed in order and with a little maneuvering we were able to see each display without a ton of people around. Security inside the exhibit is present and anyone with a cell phone out was asked to put it away or leave. Cameras are allowed inside but no photography is allowed (I forgot my camera was in my purse).

Excellent - we have tickets for the day after Thanksgiving. I go the first time, 9AM, hoping that it won't be so crowded. The King Tut exhibit was run in a similiar fashion and we had a late afternoon time. It was positively claustrophobic once you got into the exhibit.

We could break away from the pack mentality and look at the displays from the sides.

I would really recommend viewing the Ancient Qumar movie first. It's not so much virtual reality as a 3-d power point showing (with a narrator) discussing the buildings and the area. It helped give extra depth to everything else we saw.

looking forward to it. Im hoping most folks will be crammed into the various malls around town freeing up at least a little space.

but then, I'm well known to be patently delusional
