Conversion of old cassettes to CD

Continuing the train of thought from the So thread.....

The Ion USB turntable has gotten pretty bad reviews for audio quality. I have a Griffin iMic (a little analog > digital USB adapter) plus a Griffin Turntable Connection cable (which, in addition to grounding, takes the left and right RCA jacks and converts them to a mini). That way, I can plug any quality turntable into my mac...
I have a few hundred bootleg cassettes I'd like to transfer to CD. I no longer have a cassette deck and I understand there is a similar device to hook a cassette apparatus to a computer (sort of as Mousepod describes). Has anyone used such a device? Any reports? Is there a digital cassette player that will plug into a PC? I admit it, I've not done any homework here. Just need help where to go since stereos are pretty much passe these days, or so it would seem. Cassettes are certainly dead, right?

I think I've even seen internal drives that are designed for cassettes. Of course, the price of devices for such things is astronomical for what it is, these days. Funny... it's easier to find a turntable.

Worse comes to worse, you find a way to plug a tape player into your computer via RCA plugs and digitize it off the feed.

If you have a cassette player with RCA out, all you need is a Griffin iMic (for $30) and an adapter (RCA LR to mini) from Radio Shack and you're in business.

No cassette player any longer. Alas, the Sony Walkman Pro is long gone. I'll have to hunt for something to play them in, as well.

Griffin iMic, check!

If you find a cassette player with a mini-headphone jack (such as what was on your Walkman), you just need a simple cable that has a "mini headphone plug" on both ends. They are pretty easy to find and it would be a lot cheaper than the Griffin iMic and adpator.

That assumes that her computer has a line-in input. Not all sound cards do, and don't make the mistake of using the mic input, it's mono.

I have an old walkman if you want it. Just ran across it the other day.
