The Disney Visa - a friend at DL for free!

When I first heard about the Disney Visa I was definitely intrigued. Bonus points go towards Disney merch, not a bad idea. I really don't need another credit card though, so I passed.

But now they have a new deal. If you sign up as an APer, you get a free one-day park hopper.

There have been many times that I wished I could bring a friend to DL. Now the only problem is - it's just one friend. So I'm still not sure if I'm getting this.

Anyone have the Disney Visa? How good is the bonus program?

I have heard very few positive things about it. The rewards are full of loopholes and are so easy to lose. You have to spend an outrageous amout of money to accumulate rewards that are worthwhile. The APR is insane (and they are sticklers for the due date and I have heard of people not having their payments processed on time when mailing the bill 2-3 weeks in advance).

I was considering this until I started hearing such negative things about it. If you're getting it for the bring a friend ticket I say pass. If you're interested in the rewards... well [from what I understand] your (or my) kids will be in elementary school before you have enough to use.

I was really bummed when the Disney/Amex deal ended. Other than my debit card, American Express is the only charge card I carry in my wallet. The "White Glove" perks on our Walt Disney World stays were great! I toyed with the idea of getting the Disney Visa card and using it only on our Disney charges, but a much wiser person (guess who?) put her foot down. I pouted for a while until she pointed out how the "rewards" didn't justify the card. She was right. (I did pout a little again when we went to WDW 4 months ago, but she let me buy a Pal Mickey so everything turned out ok)

I got a Disney Visa. It's not a huge, fantastic deal. It never will be. They want to make money. But Disney perks were cooler than the no perks I was getting with my Keybank Visa, so Disney it is. I like the 6 months no interest on Disney vacations (purchased through Disney or through a travel agent who purchases through them.)

As far as the negatives -- due date issues -- I've had that problem with every card company around. It's not particular. Although Bank One was particularly nasty, and they did run the Disney Visa. But they just got swallowed up by Chase, so maybe that will improve.

I figure, pick the card with the perks you'll most use.

We pay our credit card bills on time, never carry a balance, so APR and such isn't a problem for us.

I agree, Prudence, you pick the card with the benefits you'll enjoy, however minor. I currently use a GM Card and I swear, I'll never ever want to buy one. All those saved points, pointless.

Still thinking about it.

I have a Disney Visa. It's okay, although I haven't been using it much lately. I rotate the CC we use depending on the double point offers, etc. I make my credit card payments online and we never carry a balance so there has never been a problem in that area.

The reward is one point per $100.00 spent. During a time period year they were offering double points or something like that. So we were using it as our main card. We use CCs for everything -- property taxes (big points), groceries, gas, etc. So it can add up with the help of large purchases. I upgraded a 5-day hopper to a Premium AP with Disney dollars so I know I had accumulated a decent ammount of points somewhere along the way. Although, for our needs, I find that AmEx, Southwest Visa and United Visa offer more bang for the buck. We've earned a lot of airline tickets with CCs.

CP, you may want to see if you can use those points through another points program. There are a lot of swap programs out there and if you can't find any that you like a lot of organizations accept donated points.

I have one and use it and find it most worthwhile.

No problems with the APR, as I don't carry a balance.

I am a Bank One customer (they are huge in AZ), so I pay my bill online by directly transferring from my checking account, so i have no due date issues.

I use it to purchase most things, and to pay many bills online (cell phone, utilities, etc), which I then just simply immediately pay off the card to get the points.

My wife and I also use it often for reimbursable work related expenses, so we get the points when doing that.

I've had it about 18 months. In that time, I've accumulated about 500 points.

Some do airline or car reward cards - I'd never have reason to use those rewards. this fits me well.
