COFFEE Wake up Jesus, it's Easter!

So you've rolled the rock away from your tomb, dyed and hidden the eggs, bought a bonnet for Mary, and picked up a nice chocolate bunny for the other Mary, whatcha got planned for the rest of the day? (and don't say you're going to Disneyland, 'cause I will be soooo jealous)

We (The Boy & me) are going to a friend's house for brunch and the hunting of eggs at 10. From there we head to the inlaws for more hunting of eggs and dinner.

My friend is awesome, she offered to rearrange her schedual if it interfered with the inlaw's just to make sure that The Boy could be there. I thought that was soooo cool that she would offer such a thing, luckily both events are perfect time-wise. I would have worked something out if it wasn't. I would never expect someone to allow themselves to be inconvieneced for me, it was just great that she offered (and meant it).

Well - the Easter Bunny arrived as planned - around 2:30 a.m. The kids awoke at 3:30 and found nearly everything and I woke up and told them both to go back to sleep until it was light out.

Fast forward to 6:00 a.m. Both kids are awake with the girl (10) finding 95% of the eggs and not wanting to share. Tsk tsk. After being forced to share she wanted to sulk about not being able to find the remaining 2 eggs that are in plain site that the boy (6) isn't seeing because he's too excited about what's in the basket.

Later today we are driving to sis in laws in Hemet for a bbq and egg hunt. Totally last minute thing as my Mom and Pop in laws were supposed to be on a cruise in Mexico but couldn't board the boat due to him being a naturalized citizen from Canada (over 30 years ago) but not bringing any paperwork to go with that. (I had no idea he was from Canada.) So, we are now all getting together (that side of the fam-damily) and we are bringing dessert... which is 2 pies I bought from Marie Calendars last night because I didn't want to cook.

In about 3 weeks we'll get together with my side of the family for "Easter". We always call it easter but it's never actually on easter. Just a good reason to get together when everyone can't on the actual day.

We have a similar age difference and that's why our bunny switched to a color coded egg system a few years back. Yellow and Green for her, Red and purple for him. They can't remember to clean up the dishes they had for lunch, but "their" egg color is permanently seared into their brains.

This system also allows the bunny to hide the eggs to the skill level of the individual seeker.

I did all my Spring celebrating last Sunday on Ostara.

Did you ever wonder how eggs got associated with Easter? It seems that chickens can only lay eggs when there is 12 hours of daylight. The Spring Equinox (the first day of Spring) marked the first day that there was a full 12 hours of light. So that was the first day (prior to modern lighting techniques - candles didn't provide enough light to trick said chickens) that you could enjoy eggs after a six month absence. That and eggs being a symbol of fertility that is associated with Spring.

And I always wondered why Easter jumped all over the calendar from year to year. I found out it is the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.

Yeah, it's on the lunar calendar, and therefore usually coincides with Passover (the Jewish calendar is lunar as well). This year, however, it's a month away. I think it's the "leap year". Every once in a while they have to add a month to the Jewish calendar to fix it, much like the leap day the solar calendar has.
