Burtons Alice looks really good...

Don't know what to make of the enlarged head of the Red Queen, but I guess she's got a big head and that's the truth of it.

YAY for an Aussie girl getting the lead role.

Cant wait for March 2010... wait. When will Antipodeans get it? Ok, can't wait till (probably) October next year.

Still.... look at the garden of live flowers. Can't wait. Maybe Disney can update the Alice Dark ride..... a Depp figure or two can't hurt, can it?

The art is wonderful, though I'm concerned about the storyline twist.

Where did you see the Red Queen? I can't find it. Seems a certain amount is taken from the original drawings, and the characters did always have huge heads.

I don't mind the twist. It seems it's just a way to get her down the Rabbit hole with more motivation. I actually like the "return to Wonderland" concept, and I think Lewis Carol used that as well in the "Looking Glass" sequel.

In any event, this was taylor-made for Burton's sensibilities. I feel better with him remaking a tale that's been told dozens of times and has as many legitimate interpretations, rather than a singular story like Apes or Wonka.

Burton's been rather hit and miss the last ... um, few decades. I really, really hope he hits with this one. I LOVE the look ... but that's one area where he rarely misses. And a Look does not a movie make.

My feeling has been that Burton is far better when directing "new" material. That is to say, his remakes and adaptations of known books have been his weakest films, while the ones that were written for him to direct or were taken from very obscure sources are the ones I love. Batman, perhaps, is the glaring exception, but even then I prefer Returns which I feel stands as a pretty unique chapter in Batman canon tailored to Burton, even though he himself didn't write it.

But if there were ever an existing world that was a good fit for Burton it's Wonderland, so I remain hopeful he returns to form here.
