Honestly, the only thing that will put me in a tent to sleep at night is the thought of rain, or just feeling like I need to be inside something, which is rare, at best.

My last trip up to the Sequoias, I slept outside. One night, it was storming, so I went into a tent, only to have someone take video of a bear in my campsite during the wee hours of the morning. The bear did some gruesome things to a couple of small critters, apparently, but didn't bother any of the humans.

And yeah, I'd sleep outside again, though I'd probably prefer it if someone else were sleeping outside in the vicinity.

I'm bringing a 2-person pop-up in the event of rain.

Oh, and if you see a bear, just be able to make a loud noise ASAP. They can be aggressive, but if you let them know you're in charge (a.k.a. big and loud) they tend to run off.

It's really not a big deal.

Besides, being in a tent only puts a little less than a millimeter between you and the bear. It'd be like a gift wrapped snack for good 'ol Teddy.

Geesh. People scared of little ol' bears......

Now, insects.... that's another story. And believe me, if I come into contact to an insect, the whole mountainside will hear the screams.

I have a very serious phobia, but I survive. If anyone should ever see something crawling on me, just brush it off, and tell me I had a fuzzle or leaf or something. Otherwise, my skin will crawl for a good 24 hours, let alone I won't be able to sleep.

You realize that now everybody will spend the entire weekend brushing you and saying things like "that was the most legs I've ever seen on a leaf!" and "I didn't know fuzzle has pincers!"
