The mundane answer to the question is that to fill the sub, you would need 40 persons.

Yes, but how much helium will each of those persons (as a percentage of body weight) need?

I rode Nemo. I am both impressed and disappointed. I'd like to see it during the day.

Having ridden both day and night, I say day is better in the lagoon. Obviously there is no difference once in the caves... er "dive deep."

Ok, since no one local could hold their water long enough for us all to ride it for the first time together next weekend, I indulged zapppop's outrageous anticipation and rode the Subs today.
We got to the park at the stroke of 8:00 opening ... and had to wait 2.5 hours to ride. zapppop enjoyed it. I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Yeah, the Mission Tortia Factory screens just complely wreck it for me. I was complely spoiler free, so I had hoped the incredible dry-for-wet technology was there to protect complicated anamatronics and not TV screens. B.A.H. I enjoyed many of the set dressings. The mine explosion was great. The jellyfish were cool. And yeah, the only good screen thing was when the animation interacted with the "live" jellies. (Though some of the scenes where screens were in the far background were also alright, I suppose). I know it's difficult to tackle swimming creatures in audioanimatronic form ... but I just see zero point to having a ride version of an animated film that is simply the actual animation of the film. Pffooft. And what happened to the idea (admittedly assumed) that we as the audience would be looking for Nemo? This is a botch-job, if you ask me. A real let-down. I'm glad I'll have no desire to ride the ride with the 3-hour queue. And just like the Subs of old, I will ride once or twice a year ... and really appreciate the activity in the Lagoon. Yes, better than The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh .... but far worse than Monsters, Inc. If this was John Lassiter's big idea for Pixar E-Tickets at Disneyland ... the future just got a lot more dim. . |

Monsters Inc is waaay below FNSV. The challenge in building this attraction was to have animated character in an area complete submerged in water, that (like the water) moved fluidly & swift. I think using projections in boxes successfully did that. Considering the type of attraction the Submarine Voyage is, I think the projections were a good idea & not necessarily a warning/signal that all future attractions will feature more projections and fewer 3 dimensional backgrounds & characters. I think the fact that Lasseter saved the subs from a watery grave and turned them into something new & fun (and spent over $150 million doing so) is a sign that there are good things in Disneyland's future. If only the park didn't have to suffer the wrath of Eisner, Pressler & Harris. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage; I like it ![]()
