Hmm, they do look like they move faster in the video. Perhaps the video is manipulated? Or maybe they just reduce wear and tear by making everything sloooooow.

That's my guess. They probably weren't too worried about long-term maintenance during the World's Fair.

I think some things wear out after a while as well. Not to mention how old film makes things look faster. Just look at old silent films (though part of that is how fast the camera man cranked the film through).
