"You can't follow pigs with pigs..." or can you...?
Actually, this is pretty disappointing news to me. The strength of Pixar has always been their ability to tell a great story, not just to dazzle us with their technical abilities. That's why The Incredibles was so great (I have high hopes for Brad Bird's Ratatouille, too) and Cars was a notch below, what with the Doc Hollywood plot and all. Looking at the proposed schedule (according to Lutz), the new productions (Cars 2 & TS3) are franchise cash-ins. Perhaps we'll see an interesting story a la TS2, but even that was problematic ("We had to save Buzz in Toy Story. Now we should save Woody in TS2"). I guess Pixar truly has been assimilated. Sigh.

It seemed to work with Toy Story. I personally thought Toy Story 2 was so-so, but enjoyable. But I seem to be in the minority with most people liking Toy Story 2 and many people preferring it over the original.

Well, financially you can, of course. PotC3, FF2, Spidey3, Ocean's Thirteen all look like they're going to turn a profit. I just wonder if Pixar is moving toward artistic bankruptcy.
By the way, many people think that Walt's "pigs is pigs" quote was because of his reluctance to release a sequel to The Three Little Pigs, as if he placed art above all. I'm even guilty of using this quote out of context when bemoaning the state of animation (see above). Actually, The Three Little Pigs (1933) was followed by The Big Bad Wolf in 1934 and Three Little Wolves two years after that. They just didn't make as big a splash.

All artists have a talent arc. Usually it's simply up then down. Pixar's may turn out to be that way, and being assimilated by Disney is likely to have
hastened that. BTW: Walt Disney's talent arc particularly fascinates me because it was a rare Up then Down then Up then Death. |

While I can't find it in any of the currently posted articles, his source is Al Lutz, operator of Miceage. Al's info is generally pretty reliable in the sense that if Al's reporting it, it has actually been discussed at Disney. However, as with any Disney information that involves things that far in the future, there's a fine line between actual plans and just kicking ideas around. The Disney mantra being, "Subject to change without notice."
