Without question my favorite Science Ficiton author, and one of the forces behind my favorite film of all time. This is a biggie. iSm is right. Clark's ideas about our future (present) were grander than we had it in us to bring about. Here's to that space elevator I hope we manage to build within the next 100 years.

Oh, and I recommend The Songs of Distant Earth, if you want a great single volume visionary work by this great man.

One of the guiding figures of my youth (along with Asimov, De Camp, Heinlein, and Campbell), even though I've never really cared for 2001 (and the two sequels are truly horrible) but there is enough greatness elsewhere.
