Old School Books

Not to be confused with old skool books.

I have a bunch of old school books from psychology classes that I can't do anything with - not even sell on Amazon or Half. They are just sitting in boxes right now.

I hate to see them in the trash. Any thoughts on where they could be donated to?

Didn't have much luck with the HB library and kinda gave up on that path. Maybe the OC library system will want em. Thanks!

Too bad there's no one with a library background you could ask.

Are they textbooks, or just books that were used in psych classes? (Generally, libraries aren't interested in textbooks)

You're probably not going to find any interest in old textbooks (especially if they've been superseded by later editions. But yeah, you could donate to a public library, they'll slide them down to the "Friends of..." organization which will try to sell them at the annual sale and then they'll be offered to prisons and jails and if after that nobody wants them they'll go in the trash (though people find it scandalous for some reason, libraries put a lot of books in the trash ultimately).

They are textbooks. At the time I was taking the classes, I wasn't familiar with Amazon or Half, and now it's way to late.

I kills me to trash anything in nearly new condition. I also have "readings booklets" from my current school that can't even be sold back to the school. Just seems like such a waste.

Toss 'em. If they're older then two years then there is not a college out there that will still be using them.

If you think they might have some value go on E-bay and compare them with the ones currently for sale -- be sure to match the edition number. You might have something, but I doubt it. We turned down literally hundreds of textbooks at Isoldit during the years I was there.

How old are they? I was able to donate some textbooks (as I understand it, they're going to Africa), but they don't want books that are more than 5 years old. If you think your books are new enough, I can try to get the name of the group for you (I've no idea how these books get to Africa--they've got a large donation box outside the college library here).

If those "reading booklets" are anthologies, you might be able to get trade credit at a used book store. If they're photocopies bound together for a course (which I'm guessing they are), your best bet is probably the recycling bin. I have a few of those to get rid of, too.

I think they are younger than 5 years. I don't even care about the money, I just don't want to trash them. Maybe I'll just put them out with my Salvation Army or Goodwill stuff when I donate again.

The "reading booklets" are just photocopied text bound together. We used them, so it wasn't a waste of money, I just hate wasting the paper (and it's double sided so I can't use it for scrap.

Thanks everyone!
