The truth about McCain

General Wesley Clark (THE General Wesley Clark) totally disses McCain.

Wow.

A former democrat candidate for President (thought 4 years ago) slams on McCain.....I fail to see how that's much of a story. This is clearly someone that the Obama campaign got to do this because no one in their campaign has any credibility on any military matter.

I feel no differently about him or Obama.

Dunno who I'll vote for in Nov.

The right will always vote for the candidate who favors kicking ass regardless of that candidate's past military service. (Bush, Cheney, Gingrich, etc.) McCain's military service is useful because it lends a patina of legitimacy to his views, but Clark is right. It doesn't make him any wiser about policy goals.

Whereas Obama's 3 years of service as a US senator lends great legitimacy as to his wise-ness.

No, indeed - but the General's point in his argument is that Obama isn't claiming something falsely. McCain is; McCain is saying that his leadership in the military will make him a strong leader in the country, and Clark says McCain does not actually have that leadership experience, in that context. So if you're judging strictly on military leadership, neither have it and one is fudging their side of the story.

Not only does he not have the leadership experience he claims, but he is not generally held in the highest of regards by his former comrades or leaders in the military. He pissed a lot of people off with his actions post-incarceration, particularly his messing around on and subsequent abandonment of his disabled wife for the rich blonde he is married to now.

But wait....wouldn't his personal life be his personal life? Just throwing that out there as personal matters only seem to mean something when it's on the right....well, not that McCain is on the right, but you know what I mean.

I might suggest that being ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee might include a little bit of leadership on military issues.

Yes, I'll grant that his position on that committee is legit leadership in this area, and that Clark was disingenuous to the extent he failed to acknowledge that.

But what's this you mean about McCain's personal life? Huh? I'm not getting you. It's not about his bio as a veteran and POW; it's about his touts as a candidate.
