In Plain Sight

After being burned by Jericho and Studio 60, and what looks like The 4400 I vowed (again) to not watch a new series until it hit at least its second season.

Somehow I got sucked into In Plain Sight on USA.

I'm loving it so far, which means it probably won't make it past the first season.

Anyone else watching?

I watched two episodes but it didn't work for me. Switch to Burn Notice, at least it has made it to the second season.

Yeah, I was intrigued by Burn Notice but didn't watch it due to (last semester of school) time constraints and thinking it wouldn't make it past season one.

I haven't really heard of In Plain Sight. Hrmm...

I really enjoy Burn Notice. Not exactly the cleverest of shows... but lots of fun.

Not to rain on BTD's parade but I worked for a short period of time on In Plain Sight at a post-production facility I was employed at. And all that I can say is that there are some absolutely horrible people working on this show. The co-producer on this show is an absolute monster. He has a horrible reputation in the industry and very few people in the industry can work with the man. He and I worked on transferring his dailies to tape and he not only did he belittle me on a hourly basis every day, he also sat in my office in a chair facing my desk watching my every move arms crossed. He dripped with attitude and a self-hate that manifested itself in red faced moments of anger. His yelling fits would bring my entire office to a screeching halt. The man has no social skills. I feel quite sorry for the man, he seems to have a biploar disorder that needs tending to.

The honeymoon I have been on with the entertainment industry has ended. There are too many foul mannered, foul mouthed idiots succeeding in the business and I for one am tired of supporting them and their work.

I was removed from working on his series when I completely lost it on him over the phone. He was checking in with me on a tape delivery to his office. The delivery wasn't due for another three hours or so. He asked why he was waiting for his tape. I told him that we agreed on a delivery three hours from now. He said he changed his mind and needed the tape asap and that his driver was in my shipping department waiting for me. There was no way to push this tape through at all. He had to wait, I told him. He then started screaming at me saying that I was a 'f*cking idiot, ill-suited for my job and if I knew how important he was to television and my company, that I'd jump through hoops for him'.

My response to him went something like this: "You know, I'd like to say that you were my only client and my only focus all day long, but you're not. We agreed on a time and you'll get it then. Do not think for a second that you can swear at me on the phone, I may look like I'm in my twenties, but I assure you that I'm pushing 40 and am not too happy about it. You picked the wrong man to talk down to. Now, if you have any more complaints about the way I do things, and I'm sure you do, then you can request a different client rep to deal with your bullsh*t. Now, I'm hanging up the phone before I say even more things that you deserve."

The guy I shared an office with was jumping in the air pumping his fists in joy. He had worked with this jerk numerous times in the past.

He was right on me being ill-suited for my job. My job was basically giving hand and blow jobs to freaky Hollywood producers and taking direct kicks to the groin with their steel toed workboots. Yeah, that ain't for me, no matter how good looking said producers may be. And can I just add, this guy was a f*cking troll, ugly as sh*t with eyebrows that needed weed-whacking.

I got removed from the project by my supervisor (I came clean to her minutes after the phone conversation was over) and this idiot never spoke to me again. His relationship continued with the post house because no other post house would work with him.

So, in regards to In Plain Sight, the only way I would watch this show would be if someone forced me to do so Clockwork Orange-style.

I'll add to the Burn Notice chorus. I watched one episode of In Plain Sight and it didn't thrill me. Burn Notice is delightfully silly and has Bruce Campbell in it. (Those two attributes may be related.)

It's an interesting dichotomy. The public vs the professional. I'm sure there are any number of shows created by first rate A'holes. Do I not watch a show due to that? What if I don't like the position someone involved with the production takes politically? Or a director that married his adopted daughter? How about an airline run by a first rate piece of filth? Or a oil magnate? Do I not fly? Ride a bike? Where do you draw the line between the individual involved and the service given?

No one's asking you not to watch it. I choose not to, is all.

It's really difficult to be a responsible consumer these days. I want to buy products from companies that are environmentally friendly, socially responsible and gay-friendly. I think it's improving, but it is cumbersome to keep track of which companies are good and which are not.

Sometimes I can get one of those. Usually it's none. While I despise most big corporations, they do offer a lot of products that are very useful.
