Kawaii=Japanese for cute and is often used to refer to the obsession many Japanese have with cartoonish cuteness. Think of the exaggerated, big-eyed cuteness of Hello Kitty.

And yes, the earrings would definitely qualify.

And Kawaii has to be said in the highest voice possible with the double "ii" sound held a few seconds longer than normal for maximum impact.
