Computer Weirdness

I've run virus scan etc. This little bit of weirdness is jpegs are showing up on my PC with broken icons and when I click on a jpeg windows does not recognize it at a jpeg and pulls up a window to select a program to open it. What have I done?

Have you run a MalwareBytes scan?

Make sure you unhide the hidden files and folders first.

Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Unhide hidden files and folders

I think your computer "forgot" what program to use to open up a jpg. If you choose your preferred program from the list, that my fix the problem. As to what cause it.....who knows.

When the window to select a program comes up make sure the box at the bottom that says "always use this program..." is checked.

Yeah, I did that. Nothing came up on the malware scan, so I did a repair of my graphics software and a reboot and that seemed to fix whatever was ailing it.
