I had a feeling throwing this shindig would mean the least time spent in Disneyland on Disneyland Birthday ever. And I was right.

The morning excursion never happened (instead, I had to return home to West L.A. to pick up my forgotten tickets).

I had to make a difficult choice for the evening excursion which is usually more fun and lively. I could either join in the traditional festivities or accept an invitation to dine at Club 33 with my party co-host and my friend who shares a birthday with Disneyland (and his lovely wife). Guess which I chose.

So my only contact with the Park until after it closed was an obnoxious swim through the maddening crowds till I was once again esconced in a luxurious retreat - this time inside Disneyland instead of atop its namesake hotel.

It was a bizarre and unusual way for me to celebrate Disneyland Birthday, but it was perfect. We had a most fantastic time during our 3-hour meal. And Club 33 served up a special vintner's menu for Disneyland '55 - a five course spectacular with each course based on classic Disneyland fare from various long time eateries in the Park - all done up in Chef 33 style. Fabulous.

I was bummed I'd miss the birthday fireworks for the first time in 30 years. But, well, they didn't happen - for the first time in 30 years.

I'm have been upset if I'd been in the Park, waiting for them. Would they not have been cancelled if I hadn't been tucked away in Club 33? Perhaps there is no spoon.

I felt sorta guilty participating in the traditional "closing ceremonies" in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, with the gang who'd been playing in the Park all evening. But in the end, I'd just celebrated Disneyland Birthday in an unusual way - and after 30 such celebrations, an unusual one was well-deserved.

It was unusual all around. The Rather Sweet Wrather Suite was NOT our typical Disneyland Birthday Disneyland Hotel party. This was a bizarre year for me - but sweet as anything I've ever tasted. Fifty Five Fifty was a huge success. In futures, we'll return to the only number being Disneyland's. But this year's sharing a number with me meant some compromises that turned out just fine.

Disneyland, I barely saw ye this time. But celebrating from inside Club 33 with a special birthday salute meal was a great way to go.
