For lack of a better place to put this (and not wanting to start a new thread for it):

Settling dispute over book will cost Zephyrhills more than $4,000

You can read the story yourself, but the gist of it is that a guy didn't want to pay $30 plus tax to buy the book for his Mom, so he hired a lawyer and paid the $400 in court filing fees to sue the city (a city in which he lived). The basis of the suit was that the citizens of the city shouldn't have to pay for the book. When he "won" the suit, the city had to lower the cost of the book to just the printing cost of $17.89 (apparently, the decade of the city employees' time to compile the information is not worth anything) plus they (the city) had to pay the $4,000+ in court/attorney fees for the suit.

So, in an effort to save the citizens of the town who chose to purchase the book $14.16 each*, he instead cost the whole town $12,494.50**

What a guy!

* $32.05 ($29.95 + 7% Sales Tax) - $17.89 = $14.16 difference
** $4,052.50 in Attorney Fees + $8,442.00 in lost revenue ($29.95 - $17.89 = $12.06 per book difference * 700 books [assuming all books are sold]) = $12,494.50
