drink2 Stop Wineing

So I hear that Red Wine is "supposed" to be good for you. I guess your heart, blood vesels and colon.

I don't know.

I thought I'd try to save my ass and start drinking a bit of wine. What kind of wine do you drink and why?

White wine only. Red wine makes me break out in hives, no matter what type I drink. Some frenchperson I am.

In reds, my favorites are Merlots, Bourgandies, Beaujolais, and Pinot Grigio. I like my red wine to have really strong flavor, whether it's dry or sweet.

Whites, I particularly like Pinot Noir. It tends to have much more interesting flavor than a standard Chardonay.

And I'm a big fan of a good class of Port, a dessert whine. Mmmmm, so satisfying and relaxing.

Wine goes straight to my legs and hits me really fast. I'm really bummed because I'd like to learn more about the different types of wines and enjoy a glass with a meal. Right now I enjoy red wine, that's fruity and not too dry. And I drink it when I don't need to go anywhere or move around.

I'm a pinot fan. Noir or grigio, makes no difference to me....just what I'm eating with it usually. I tend to drink pinot grigio most often.

I love chardonnay when I'm eating salmon, which is about once a week, so we usually have a bottle of chardonnay in the fridge.

Jack: Tastes pretty good to me.

Really not much of a red wine person, and that's what you have to drink to get the positive effects (which you can also get from the darker grape juices, btw)

Chernabog brought a great Australian wine once that I really liked though. I can't remember the winery name, but I think it was a type of Shiraz... I'll try to remember to ask him one of these days. He showed up at the Hollywood Bowl with it. If the paté I'd bought had been any good, it would have gone great with it, I'm sure. Instead, we just had the wine (I think I'll stick to fancy cheeses for spreads from now on).

Now white wine, that's another story... I stick with the sweet stuff. Reislings mostly. My fave wine though is La Famiglia di Robert Mondavi's "Moscato Bianco". It comes in a really thin bottle. They also make another Muscat wine, "Moscato D'Asti", which is pretty good too. If you haven't developed a palate for wine yet, start on the easy, sweet stuff, and work your way up to the dryer stuff. I like German wines, myself. Not that a Reisling or Gewurtstraminer can't be dry, but they can also be really sweet.

Just repeat after me: Friends don't let friends drink white zin...

Trader Joe's carries some good (and bad) Aussie wines....I'm blanking on all the names right now, but the one I liked the most was a shiraz. We had an Aussie wine tasting night at my friend's house in November. It was a lot of fun. Someone brought vegemite as a joke.
