I'm in no way in a good frame of mind to discuss Watchmen as my mind is elsewhere but I will say its interesting to hear an outsiders view. I think the appreciation of the book has alot to do with the appreciation of comics, the history and the whole nature of the genre. In addition, it has alot to do with the time from when it came out. The mid 80's was a real revolution in comics and Watchmen, along with Dark Knight Returns brought real change in how comics were written and how we, as readers saw them. Watchmen was one of the first to go in a darker, more realisitic, epic-type path. It showed "super-heroes" in a different light because before generally speaking, the genre was very Adam West Batman and very bright and shiney. Compare genre films like ALIEN and MASH or even Toy Story - where they took something that was, though good in its own right, somewhat of a stail genre(s) and changed how we thought about Comedy or Animation or horror flicks. So, though it may seem boring, and it is a bit drawn out, imho - it certainly was the start of something better than had come before. Alot of us geekboys (aka fanboys) adore it more for than then the words on the page.

Anyway...
