Unfortunately, I think people pretend they don't see things.

My aunt told us she and her son were debating the issue and she told him that you had to support the 'no'. She said that back when she was a child in grade school, {oh, I'd the '50s? not sure what part}, the principal came to their house and told their father if the kids spoke Spanish in class they would be sent home.
