The organ concert was wonderful! I'm not ashamed to say that I love a good organ. There's nothing like hearing one in person; it's the way the sound surrounds you and travels through you.

This morning, we had breakfast at the hotel. I don't think we'll be eating many meals here. The food is very good, but very expensive (and you don't get very much). We walked down to the Maritime Museum and toured the Star of India. After that, Bill convinced me to tour the Soviet submarine there.

Before you board they have a sign with a teeny hole in it. It says that you must be able to fit through the hole in order to tour the sub! I was able to squeeze through, but it was not very dignified. Anyway, there are four of these tiny watertight doors in the sub that you have to crawl through. And I swear they got smaller and smaller as you went!

What struck me the most about the sub was how poorly the construction seemed. Bill remarked that it looked like something someone built in their backyard. The hull was warped and lumpy. (How do you get lumpy steel?) The interior walls were mad of cheap plywood. Everything just looked cheap and jury-rigged. This was the height of Soviet naval technology? Hunt For Red October it ain't!

After a forgettable lunch at a place on the waterfront we returned to the hotel about 1:00 to find the room hadn't been made up. this was a disappointment; we had planned on relaxing for a few hours there before heading out to the Gaslamp Quarter. Bill called the front desk. It turns out the hotel only cleans rooms in the afternoon! wtf? They promised to send someone right up, so we retired to the "Living Room" (lobby) to take advantage of the free WiFi there.

Anyway... That's it for now!
