drink2 The Jump - Part 2

The Jump - Part 2
by: me

My slumber tree left a bark-textured imprint on my cheek.
I stretched watching the sun hover above me, out of reach.
I looked down and noticed that even my shadow was bored with me.
I kicked through the grass and walked down a hillside carved in two by a small brook.
I came upon a small house whose owner battled the same sad demons I did, but fared better in a fight.
We laughed and talked the day away laughing at the world that had a crushing effect if one noticed.
The visit wasn’t long but it fed the freedom I craved.
I continued my journey looking for something yet knowing not what it was.
I fell again onto the ground wishing that it would take me into it.
So dizzy, so fearful, so heavy with thought.
I looked up again.
A pair of ebony eyes stared at me. A black rabbit sniffed my nose prompting me to scratch hers.
“You’re not very good at taking care of yourself, are you?” She said to me.
“I guess not.”
“Don’t you think it’s about time?” She asked.
“Yes. But what people don’t tell you is how.”
“If you need someone to tell you, then maybe you’re not worth it.” She turned and hopped two steps away. She nipped at a thistle at her side.
“Maybe not.”
“Listen to you.” She laughed. “Is that my cue to feel sorry for you?”
I blinked watching her round off another thistle.
“I don’t feel sorry for you.” She said. “Worse is possible. Heck, some people eat rabbit.”
I laughed.
“Hmph.” She said sniffing the air haughtily. She sat cleaning her ears of thistle dust.
There was an odd silence.
“Well, don’t just sit there, dunce. Come stay with me. But only for a little while, I don’t like to sharing my hay pellets for long.”
She hopped on into a small glen embraced by trees. She turned realizing I wasn’t following just yet.
“We have a pool and hot tub.” She added.
I was sold.
