I'm pro-velvet as it's one of those good texture fabrics. Dark colors and jewel tones seem more luminous in velvet so I think that's the way to go. I think also because of it's texture it can make a good contrast with other fabrics.
However, it's hot here right now, so velvet seems a bit oppressive for the current weather. So any more context on how this hypothetical fabric might be deployed?
