The Scene
Last night I saw one of the best "straight" plays I've seen in years! The Little Dog Laughed stars Julie White in the role that won her the Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Play in 2007. I don't think I have ever seen a performance that more deserved that accolade. She was absolutely brilliant as Diane, the Hollywood agent whose client "suffers from a recurring case of homosexuality." Mitchell, the client, falls for a male prostitute named Alex (played by Johnny Galecki, also reprising his Broadway role) just as Diane is trying to produce a movie based on a play where the male lead is gay.

I could go on an on about how stunningly awesome Julie White is in this show, but really, you need to go see it for yourself.

While Julie White is truly amazing, the other performers are also quite good. Zoe Lister-Jones' portrayal of Ellen, Alex's jaded girlfriend, is hilarious. Her voice often reminded me of Julia Sweeney, whom I adore.

At first I was a little unsure if I liked Brian Henderson's version of Mitchell, but he definitely warmed up to me and by the end of the play I really appreciated the acting choices he made. And no, it didn't hurt that he is absofreakinglutely gorgeous! And we get so see all of him (and Galecki) every so briefly.

It's only showing until December 21 and seats are pretty limited, so please, please, treat yourself to this show.
