Thinking on it a bit, I realize that I do have a small bit of reasoning about keeping/tossing parts.
I think one of the key deciding factors is "how many do I already have of these and how easy/costly is it to replace?" Phone cords go first. Lately, I have been letting go of basic USB cables as I have found that I have quite a few. And I have more 3-foot RCA stereo cables than I will ever need (especially the cheap flimsy ones).
