Warning! Long Instructions Ahead:

1. Uninstall Itunes, and the iPod software.
2. Delete the "C:\Program Files\iTunes" folder. (If any refuse to delete, do it after step 6)
3. Delete the "C:\Program Files\iPod" directory. (If any refuse to delete, do it after step 6)
4. Make Sure the iPod is unplugged from the USB port.
5. Restart into Safe Mode (Hit F8 Rapidly As the Computer Boots, you will get a menu)
6. After Windows loads, login as the Administrator
7. After Logging-In, hit "Start -> Run...", and type "cmd", then hit enter.
8. And the prompt, type "Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" and hit Enter
9. Now type "Devmgmt.msc"
10. In the Device Manager window that opens go to the View menu and select "Show Hidden Devices".
11. Look under the different catagories for an iPod or Apple Service. Also look for "USB Mass Storage Device". If you find one (or more), right click it, and select "Uninstall".
12. When that's done, close the Device Manager & Command Prompt windows.
13. Now head to "Start -> Control Panel -> (Performance and Maintance) -> Administrator Tools -> Services"
14. Under "Name" look for iPod Service. If it exists, right click it, and slect "Properties" In the box that pops up, under "Startup Type:" select "Automatic".
15. Restart the Computer.
16. Install iTunes (only!).
17. Plug in the iPod.
18. If it detects it, great! If not, redo steps 13&14 to confirm that it is "Automatic", and then restart and try again.
19. Hopefully you have a working iPod!
